Terms of Use

These terms cover the DuoTyping apps for Mac and Windows, the browser extension, the web app, DuoTyping Engine, the account and paid plan, and this website, and by using any of them you agree to them. “We” means the people who make DuoTyping.

Using DuoTyping

You can use DuoTyping on your own computers and phones, for personal or professional writing. Every app needs a free account for DuoTyping Engine, Translate and reports; the Mac and Windows apps also work with a key of your own without one.

Acceptable use

DuoTyping’s AI features (checks, rewrites, marks as you type, Write and Translate) work only on text you write: they correct it, rewrite it or translate it. They don’t chat, don’t write from a prompt, and don’t make images or video. Whether you use DuoTyping Engine or your own AI service, don’t use them for:

• sexually explicit, pornographic or other NSFW content, or any sexual content involving a minor;
• harassment, threats or hate, or anything that encourages violence or self-harm;
• spam, phishing, scams or malware, or text meant to impersonate someone or deceive;
• anything illegal, or that infringes someone else’s rights or privacy.

And don’t use DuoTyping’s servers for anything but its own checks, or to get around their limits.

How we enforce it

• The AI model behind DuoTyping Engine runs under its maker’s usage policy, which prohibits sexually explicit content, and has its own safeguards against it.
• With DuoTyping Engine, every account has a limit on how much it can check.
• Report misuse to support@duotyping.com. We may stop checks for, or close, any account used to break these rules.
• On your own key, your AI service’s usage policy applies as well, and that service enforces it: that text never reaches us.

Your account

An account is needed for DuoTyping Engine, Translate and reports in every app, though a key of your own works without one in the Mac and Windows apps. It holds the paid plan if you buy it, and keeps the writing profiles and drafts you make in the web app. Keep its sign-in to yourself, with the email account its codes go to and any passkey, Google or Apple account you sign in with: what happens through it is yours. You can export its data or delete the account at any time, on Privacy in the web app, or by writing to support@duotyping.com from its email address. Deleting it never touches the settings on your devices, and doesn’t delete the paid plan’s payments, which DuoTyping keeps as its books, no longer linked to the account. We may close an account that’s used to abuse the service.

Your writing is yours

You keep every right to what you write, and to the suggestions you accept. We claim none of it. When you check with DuoTyping Engine, you let us keep the text you check, including what marks as you type send, and the suggestions it gets, encrypted, and use them to run and improve DuoTyping, as the Privacy Policy explains. We don’t sell them, share them, or train AI models on them. What you check on your own key never reaches us.

Suggestions can be wrong

Suggestions come from a language model, and a language model can be mistaken. Nothing changes until you accept a suggestion, so read it first: you’re responsible for the text you send.

DuoTyping Engine

Once you choose it, DuoTyping checks your writing with DuoTyping Engine, so you don’t need a key. Every app uses it only while you’re signed in. With a free account, you get 20 a day. A check is one review or rewrite; marks as you type and translations are counted apart, each against an allowance of its own. We may change these limits, and may stop free checks for a device, network or account that’s used to get around them or to use the service for anything other than checking writing in DuoTyping.

Your own AI service

In the Mac and Windows apps, you can instead connect an AI service on your own key: OpenAI, Anthropic or another service. You use it under that service’s terms, it bills you directly, and DuoTyping’s limits don’t apply.

The paid plan

The paid plan is a subscription that raises how many checks, marks as you type and translations you get each day with DuoTyping Engine, up to the allowances shown when you buy it. It’s sold by Creem, our merchant of record, and Creem’s Buyer Terms apply to the purchase, its taxes and refunds. DuoTyping keeps a record of each payment, refund and chargeback, and what Creem tells it of you as its customer, as the Privacy Policy explains; it keeps the payments as its books after your account is deleted, no longer linked to it. It renews until you cancel. While it renews, you can switch it between monthly and yearly on Plan. Nothing is charged when you switch: in the last 24 hours of the period you paid for, the other term is charged in full and starts, and nothing of the period it replaces is refunded or prorated. If you switch too late for that to be made before the period ends, or Creem can’t make it then, the plan renews on its current term and the switch waits for the next renewal. Switching back, or turning auto-renew off, before then cancels the switch. You can cancel any time with Turn Off… beside Auto-renew on Plan in the web app, at app.duotyping.com/plan, which Manage Subscription… in Settings › Account opens from the Mac app and, from version 1.2, the Windows app; the plan stays until the end of the period you paid for. Delete Account stops the plan’s renewals at once, and the plan then stays until the end of the period you paid for or until the account is deleted, 90 days later, whichever comes first. If it’s your account’s first purchase of the paid plan, monthly or yearly, you can get a full refund within 3 days (72 hours) of paying by writing to support@duotyping.com; the plan then ends at once. This is once per account and covers that first payment only, never a renewal. Otherwise, we don’t refund the rest of a period that has started, whether you cancel or delete your account, unless Creem’s Buyer Terms or the law give you a refund: if you’re a consumer living in the European Union, for example, you can withdraw from your purchase within 14 days by asking Creem, as its Buyer Terms set out. A refund in full ends the plan at once. If we stop offering the paid plan, or close DuoTyping, we’ll stop its renewals, and it stays until the end of the period you paid for. If we raise the price, we’ll tell you 30 days before it applies, and it applies only from your next renewal after that.

No warranty

DuoTyping and this website are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any loss that comes from using them, including text changed by a suggestion you accepted.

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed.
